eds and the Environment

In 2008 Waste Recycling and Destruction Limited (WRD) became a new business operating under the EDS Group of Companies. WRD's primary role is to support eds in it's environmental crusade to become even more efficient in reaching "in house" recycling targets, providing major green and financial benefits to both the environment and the client. WRD also offer a wide range of services for the receipt, destruction and recycling of finished goods, palletised products, bulk products and out of date or redundant food and beverages.

The company has recently developed a site branded Beeley Wood, Sheffield; a sustainable recycling village. Our operations at Beeley Wood currently involve "in house" recycling activities along with the manufacture of agricultural fertilizer and animal bedding from materials otherwise thought of as waste such as plasterboard, wood, dust, and sludge.

eds has a strong history of recycling activities, approximately 90% of all waste arising on our sites is recycled. We are also keen to explore new technologies and opportunities for the recycling of materials, adding value to our customers and reducing our environmental impact. It is currently the only decommissioning company in the world to own and control a 45 acre site entirely committed to recycling their own waste and introducing innovative technologies to sustain and enhance that.

eds are the only operator to date to incorporate several methods of calculation directly relating to reducing carbon emissions for standard demolition activities. Although the construction industry has evidence of this type of calculation, as yet the demolition industry doesn't. Yet again demonstrating our lead by producing the very first industry standard matrix (patent pending), soon to be approved by the Environmental Agency.

CRC (carbon reduction commitment) becomes a legal obligation to companies currently spending in excess of £500,000.00 per annum on energy bills, affecting an estimated 20,000 companies in the UK. Our calculation methods for demolition activities are groundbreaking and also our principal is to undertake demolition activities whilst offering a zero or negative carbon impact from our activities.

eds set the benchmark on quality, safety, efficiency and control and are undoubtedly second to none when it comes to considering the environment. Our most recent awards and accolades prove our respected position in the worldwide decommissioning market place.
